SE Community Magic Item Brainstorming for Full Army Book

Bow of wyscan list +1 to wound for +1 shot? Not worth the investement if you ask me.

Spirit of the Whirlwind. Still same price than Héros heart with less offered. I would reduce price or add +1AP.

Duskspear (Replaces Lifeseed Feathers) = Nice. Dont know what the price tag will be but for 65pts I could take it.

Hunter’s Honour Spear enchantment. Still nice

Armour Enchantments
Curse of the Black Stag. Still nice

Banner Enchantments
Predator Pennant. Still nice. Reduction in price maybe (50pts?)

Banner of Silent Mist. Very nice item

Banner of Deception. Nice but situationnal.

Artefacts
Twilight Sprite (replaces Shielding Bark): 0-2 per Army. The bearer gains Distracting. Love it. Depends on price if taken or not.

Snowblind Rune. Like it. Depends on price if taken or not.

Mistwalker's Mirror. Very cool. But I fear the price.

Sacred Seeds. Nice. Should cost less than talisman of the void to be taken though.

Horn of the Hunt. Not sure it will be taken. A charge is to be tried only if auto in... But nice item

Glyph of Amryl. I like it not to be conditionnal. But between conditionnal (challenge) and only first turn, I préfère conditionnal. Not possible to get always +3DS even if price gets up 10 or 15pts?

I just want to suggest an alternative replacement for the Lifeseed Feathers, using a similar concept to the current version, but as a melee weapon.

This would be an enchantment for spear or sylvan lance, and either:

• each to-hit roll of 6 is resolved as a crush attack, instead of a normal attack
  

Or

• The bearer may make a crush attack as soon as their normal attacks have all been resolved.
  

Probably the first option.

Edit: or combine this with the "Duckspear" , make it a spear which can make a single crush attack in combat, and can be thrown like a bolt thrower.

the combo of both would be a pretty cool weapon ! Just that spear isn't the most sexy weapon for our lords., and a crush attack wouldn't be as usefull on a lance. That would make a cool monster chaser thought !

One problem is that Crush Attacks are INI0 and this item would thus break that rule, which is not too good a habit to be in

A second problem is that this weapon would only be viable with a Wild Huntsman as he's the only one with enough attacks to make it reliable. We already have this problem where magic items is really only suitable for one kindred, so no reason to make more.

What's so cool about the Duckspear is that I can see almost every character using it

I guess having a default (optional) magic weapon build into the kindred is not an option?

I like all the items you propose except from this one:

Snowblind Rune. (Replaces Hail Shot) At the end of deployment nominate one enemy model. All ranged flaming attacks(including magic missiles) from this model gain a fixed Aim of (3+).

IMO it shouldn´t be so focused on flaming attacks but all kind of range attacks, I don´t think "all or nothing" items are good for the game.

In the same way I think it should grant +2 aegis (up to 4+) against range attacks instead of a fixed aim of 3+, because I don´t want to gamble any of my units with one dice, i´d rather it to be more stable. And aegis 5+/4+ is the same than an fixed aim of 3+ regarding statistics.

IMO yes - it is a problem because it leads to:

- Standardized builds (aka the same characters being fielded over and over)
- Characters being balanced around taking specific items (kinda like VC Barrow Guard or balanced around having a specific banner)

I disagree, because of situations like the following, from my last game:

I had my BD prince with the Glyph and Sylvan Blades of Titanic Might, in a unit of BD, and charged them into a unit of Orcs containing the Orc General. I decided not to challenge, because if I challenged with the Prince, he could accept with the unit champion. If I challenge with my champion, he could accept with the general. Either way, I'd get stuck unable to fight the general with my prince. He didn't challenge either, so my prince ended up fighting without the DS bonus, which would have put the Orc General at -1 to hit, and my prince wounded the general, but failed to kill him, and died to his return attacks.

Other armies don't only get their main form of defence in a duel, why should we?

can you imagine a KoE duke who only got an armour save in a duel? or a Beastlord who counted as R3 outside of duels.... not getting hit is our main defence, it should apply all the time.

Items are costet for the best options therefore if not taken that way it is not the most point efficient build leading to not being viable in tournaments


The personal question I have now is, if it is not the better option to make kindreds playable without magic weapons (or items in general but add an option for magical attacks) and keep the items as basic as possible.

I mean a magic bow will always be priced for Pathfinder kindred why not having a different effect for those to keep it cheap enough for other heroes to be taken.

Just for now I don't really see the possibility (a personal impression) that different offensive builds are being possible in future without having multiple magic weapons of each kind (eg with 2 bow, 2 lance/spear and 2 blade enhancements, there won't be 4 different Pathfinder builds)

I think it is better in duel as opposed to "only in the first round", obviously always on would be better but i don't know if it would be granted

it would work better if we had some way to force dueling

Different profiles for different heroes is a lot of extra complexity... and is a sign the item isn't very well balanced. Just think of why they ended up removing Tricker's Helm altogether.

SE characters are already only taken for output or shenanigans.

Well I imagine that's part of the idea behind Lifeseed/Duckspear since they are single-shot. The real challenge is Bough of Wyscan. To make it viable without making it mandatory

Glyph for 1st round is cool to anvil some really nasty shock troops like Chaos Knights or Chosen Knights with our lone chars.

Snowblind Rune - agree with Adalidsilvano - other magic missiles kill our fragile units as well: last game my General Shapeshifter with 4+/4++ was oneshot with WoDG hereditary spell (we had 5 vs 4 magic dices situation and scroll was already spent turn 1 to block this spell, took 10 wounds to save, saved 7). There are several missiles which are as deadly (some even more!) as Pyromancy missiles.

Moving Distracting from Cloak Enchantment to Artefacts session is sad, cause if we take Distracting + Amryl there will be no 2++ aegis from fire, and such char may be oneshot with 3D6 Pyromancy missile or Alchemy missile.

I'm not sure about that. I will push for always on, but first round could work too. Our characters are fragile enough that surviving the second round is relatively unlikely even with the DS bonus. However, being able to survive the first round at least ensures we get a second round of attacks, and killing the enemy character before they get their own second round of attacks might be our best chance of surviving.

I'm not sure either way yet, but I am leaning towards first round only being better than duel only.

Edit: Ideally we'll get always on, in which case duel vs first round doesn't matter.

Always -3DS should still be cheaper than always distracting item. (distracting is -1 to hit so equivalent to +4DS).
Distracting should cost 45 to 60 points?? (more and it wont be played. We already have a distracting banner at 60points, almost never taken)...

So Glyph with always +3DS might remain same price or 5 to 10pts more than current price.
