The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is here! You can read all about it in the news.
Our beta phase is finally over. Download The Ninth Age: Fantasy Battles, 2nd Edition now!
2.2 is out. Some of the most notable changes:
- Sacred Hourglass, cannot be taken with Sceptre of Power
So we can't have a reliable magic phase even with evocation now.
+ Pharaoh 250 pts (+20 pts chariot)
35 pt drop!
This makes the Pharaoh much more attractive
= Ark of Ages, the +6" aura now stacks.
Not sure this will make a difference, but we can now get a +12" for evocation/Divination spells.
= Skeletons 7ppm (spears +1 ppm)
Yes, they definitly needed a big price decrease. Skeletons finally are costed at goblin level.
The price increase in spears I don't like. It completly nullifies the price decrease in skeletons. Before a unit of 50 skeletons with spears costed 420 and now it costs 410. Almost no change!
I get the reason why (spears are best on big units of skeletons with UW), but considering how little use big units of spear skeletons have had in all these years, I don't think we need to hamper them. The final change seems kind of pointless if the idea was to make big skeleton blocks more viable.
+ Skeleton archers 10ppm
This is a pretty big drop in price, but something had to be done to make archers more appealing after the vollay fire change.
With all these decrease in cost to infantry units, archers may finally make a comeback. We will darken the sky with arrows, 20% more arrows!
+ Skeleton cavalry 170, 12ppm (also, combat characters skeleton mount cost now 10 pts)
Wow, big cavalry units are getting really cheap! A unit of 24 cost just 340 pts
I may need to get some extra models to try a big cavalry.
+ Necropolis Guards 200, 19 ppm.
Yes, this is a great change. I don't think NG msu are supposed to be the main way to use these guys.
Now it seems that MSU and big units are far better balanced.
In general, it seems this update focused on balancing the models most affected by the attribute change, improving internal balance a lot.
Lists based on standard height models seem much more viable and interesting in this new version.
A big , expect for the hourglass + scepter combo, spear cost increase and 3-7 chariots limit instead of 3-8.

SInce the Cat is basically out of the bag, here is the prepared statement @setepenmentou made. Posting it now before it gets snowed over by other comments
After times for discuss, the RT decided to keep the change on hereditary as it is. The main reason is because it would impact both pricing and resurrected values which is really too much for a patch update (and very hard to test in a such short time).
But they heard what community said about the collateral damages and decided to reduce the price of the skeletons :
- Additional skeleton warriors dropped to 7ppm (-2). Spear option cost now 1ppm (+1).
- Additional skeleton archers dropped to 10ppm (-2)
- Skeleton cavalry dropped to 170ppm (-5) and additional model to 12ppm (-3)
- Necropolis guards hiked to 200ppm (+20) but additional model dropped to 19ppm (-4)
Characters got some discount too
- Book of deads dropped to 50 (-5)
- Pharaoh dropped to 250 (-35), the single horse to 10 (-10) but chariot is now 95 (+20)
- Harbringer dropped to 160 (-10), the single horse to 15 (-20) but chariot is now 70 (+10)
- Nomarch Skeletal horse dropped to 10 (-10)
- Casket of Phatep dropped to 225 (-5)
Additional unit changed :
- Additional chariot cost 75ppm(+1)
- Additional swarm cost 40ppm(-7) but UA option hiked to 20ppm (+5)
- Shabti Helberds dropped to 15ppm (-3)
- Dreadsphinx dropped to 450 (-10)
- Colossus dropped to 410 (-10)
Please continue to send us feedback and games results with this version.
• Godslayer, slight rewording to clarify which Aegis Saves are conditional
• Sacred Hourglass, cannot be taken with Sceptre of Power
• Ark of Ages, Sacred Ark, rewording to clarify
• Tomb Harbinger, Royal Guard rewording for streamlining

Oh no, my MSU spear skellies got 20p more expensive!
Otherwise, I guess we really are heading for skeleton county, good thing I ordered 60 NG from Kanadian on halloween.
Have to figure out if sword'n'board skellies are worth bringing along, though. 430p for 60 doesn't sound too terrible, nerfed healing or no.Life is hard when you're a skeleton

This statement makes my head want to explode! How was there enough time to playtest the change to the +2 and how it effects points and res values to begin with? I'm not at all surprised by that reasoning, just frustrated and disappointed.
as the patch is basically just cosmetic, when can be some bigger rework/changes expected?
These changes do seem quite okay to me. I definitely feel like they listened to our feedback about the internal balance of the book and addressed it somewhat. Now to see if it will make a difference. Units of 50 hw/s skellies for 390 points with command is not bad. Thats quite cheap. Will hold up most things for 2 rounds at least.
Point are far better for internal balance now. Even Pharaoh and Dread sphinx seem too cheap now !
Feels weird they round the cost of additionnal chariot and not the underground ambush of the sand stalkers (which other option cost 31 pts instead of 30 ? ^^)
Just disappointed that the sacred hourglass didn't received a real rework (for lowering his power) and not just an additionnal nerf.1 - Start of the Charge Phase (and start of the Player Turn)
2 - The Active Player chooses a unit and declares a Charge
for an extra 24 points, barrow gives those cav S5 on the charge“You can never know everything, and part of what you know is always wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that. A portion of courage lies in going on anyways.” -Lan Mandragoran, EotW

I'm so excited about the changes to the skeletons and archers, I mostly use these guys in my games so the points decrease should help me I hope. Overall I have to say I am happy with this update.
Seems like Barrow Legion is going to see a lot more play.
