We both know I try to keep my games as boring as possible, hence the warmachines/archers.
I try my very best to avoid combat whenever possible.
Come to think of it, I must conclude all my opponents are always overly aggressive...
A magical thing just happened guys!
The battle against the KoE ended in 12-8 to UD!
(2000 points in my favor but 1 knight captures objective for him)
MVP of the match?
Casket of Phatep hands down. It seems if your opponent consistently fails to dispel it (even on 3 dice) and rolls 11+ or worse on the LD test, it's very valuable xD.
Second MVP: Evocation with Hasten the Hour -> it killed about 8 knights in the battle!
LVP = Pharaoh, he couldn't handle 6 grail knights xD
I've taken a couple of notes how to change the list, but the style I'm going for (team-list that can take a beating) is perfected when knowing the meta. So after the tournament, I'll see which lists performed best and I can adapt my list to those.
Points I have noted so far:
- Cannons suck -> no more Dread Sphinxes
- 2 units of cavalry take up a big space/ limit the space needed for archers and warmachines
- I need a binding scroll in a defensive build (not NEED need, but highly valuable)
- The Pharaoh is awesome... in pairings, not in the game
- The magic is near perfect now. It costs me an arm and a leg, but I enjoy it very much!
Just finished my match against Team Ukraine's Dread Elves. An...Absolutely undeserved 20-0 win, I'd say.
So, this one:
683 - Beastmaster, Dragon, Halberd (Pride of Gar Daecos)
490 - Warlock Outcast, Witchcraft, 2x Binding Scroll
330 - Temple Legate, Battle Standard Bearer, Blades of Darag, Battle Oracle
280 - Temple Legate, General, Blades of Darag, War Smith
473 - 23 Temple Militants, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer (Executioner's Icon)
473 - 23 Temple Militants, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer (Rending Banner)
198 - 12 Raiding Party, Beast Breaker
470 - 22 Judicators, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer
150 - 5 Black Cloaks
150 - 5 Black Cloaks
400 - Hydra
400 - Hydra
Skipping the early game, this is the situation in the beginning of his 4th turn:
As you can see, I'm in a very bad position - My Chariots in the middle, a Hydra facing off with my Scorpion, Temple Militants far in the right flank and a block of Judicators + Temple Militant General staring at said Chariots, a Dragon eating my Halberdiers...And the opponent's turn is starting.
After some misplays like letting my opponent get Righteous Glory off on Temple Militants and losing an entire block of NG in one fell swoop, and my chariots reeling themselves into a very bad position due to charging an unit into its flank, said unit being the militants and BSB that also killed my PW NG, I'm now looking at an explosion from all sides - Judicators coming to the Chariot's front, Hydra to the flank, or maybe the militants coming into their flank (this turned out to be impossible because my BSB is alive and blocking their path), and on the other side a dragon is eating my Halberdiers and a Hydra is coming to the flank.
I'm getting ready for a deserved 2-18 loss or so, but dice decree otherwise.
The Judicators fail their +6 charge. But I'm hardly out of the woods.
The militants, and Hydra, charge the Scorpion...And in the ensuing melee, fail to kill it, doing only 2 wounds in total. The Scorpion loses the fight by 3...And is thus saved by my BSB right next to it, HOLDING THE LINE with 1 wound remaining. The chariots would be home free, but my opponent remembered to block them, just in case, with his two living Black Cloaks. So they're still stuck. And on the left flank, my Halberdiers go poof as the Hydra makes contact, though they pull off 2 wounds into his Dragon before dying, leaving it down to 2.
Not a great situation. However...My Pharaoh is open.
I take the chance to turn this around, and charge the Pharaoh out into the Judicators. If I can kill his general AND stop the Judicators from rolling into the Chariots, I can still win. The Chariots simply reform to watch the militants and hydra, preparing for their next turn counter-strike. On the left flank, my lonesone Amuut rider also must get some points. He charges the Dragon. My opponent decides to flee, seeing that he has only 2 wounds left and not wishing to take the risk. So I charge the Hydra instead, might as well.
My magic goes extremely swimmingly - Through the power of Hourglass, I get both re-rolls off on the chariots, AND get Whispers of the Veil on 3 dice against his 5 on the Judicators. So in melee, my pharaoh challenges and is of course denied...Time to eat 12 attacks from the Judicators.
They do one wound. In return, the Pharaoh kills the Militant General. The Judicators break from combat and flee off the board. On the left flank, the Amuut Harbinger takes no wounds from the Hydra, inflicting 3 in return. The hydra also fails its steadfast and breaks, and is caught by the Harbinger, who also gets close to the fleeing Dragon for a turn 6 charge.
Which, as it turns out, was not needed, as the Dragon fails its rally and flees off the table. On the other side, the hydra and now-free militants take their chance and charge the Chariots. The ensuing fight sees 18 militants dead to 4 wounds in the Chariots, autobreaking both. Here, my opponent calls it as its incredibly late for us both by now, and concedes me the 20-0.
The rollercoaster was absolute, going from a massive loss to a total win...Basically due to a Sand Scorpion. Though the Amuut scoring 1100 points by himself was pretty hype as well.Life is hard when you're a skeleton
Laughing !!! Great Result !!!
By the way....Did you learn any Ukrainian Swear Words ?
Hah, no. My opponent was extraordinarily calm even through the worst swings of dice, if it wasn't for the concede I could have sworn the situations did not affect him in the slightest.Life is hard when you're a skeleton
That's was some awesome (and obviously well deserved) luck.
A-Team Belgium is now up against team Russia after capping the Black Bulls!
Probably our toughest opponent so far and holy moly those lists :O
EDIT: I got the new DE as my opponent
Not much experience agains them so looking forward to this
