Is there any use for this or is it a meme option for modellers?

In my opinion the best selling point for the larger base is the increase in bubble/effect range that the character in the chariot might have (general bubble, crown, rally around the flag, master of stone). In addition you get some very situational benefits: two additional horse attacks when out of the unit, better chance to have extra ranks with the unit, better death mask of teput effect, better coverage for hiding something behind you, bigger overrun/pursuit paths when corner clipping in to a combat, etc.
Are all of these worth the cons of the bigger base? Probably never But I really wish someone proves me wrong!

The 2 Normal Chariots in base to base, Both Nomarch clip Corner on both edges....this means that ALL the chariots get to fight as ALL the chariots are directly behind a Figure engaged.
Good find! Possibility to direct all of your unit's attacks at a single point is definitely sometimes useful. The 2 Normal Chariots in base to base, Both Nomarch clip Corner on both edges....this means that ALL the chariots get to fight as ALL the chariots are directly behind a Figure engaged.
Still, the only time I have found myself even considering the larger chariot base was while building some weird terracotta lists where the pharaoh on chariot did not have a crown and there were 3 battle sphinxes to keep in a march bubble
