    That's right, it's the book with the army adapted to the BG. T9A's own book independent of GW's legacy, although something may remain. The most optimistic official estimate or what the project would like to see is 4 LABs a year, but it's a difficult figure to achieve. I think a more realistic figure is 2 per year, with probably 1 or 2 more in the design phase for the following year. If you want to see the result of the LABs, you can look at WDG and DL, which are complete and unchanged (except points, like all of them) ID and DE are in Beta, which means they are not finished, they are still in the development phase but quite close to the end, they are expected to undergo few and small changes, VS is in Alpha, which means it is like the Beta but in a more unstable moment, with possible more radical changes. Finally, KoE and SA are next, both in development, KoE is already being tested.

    Thank you for such a full response! That clears things up a tremendous amount.

    I had assumed books were only updated together, and once a year. But it looks like LABS are a thing. Which updates the books individually, I think? How is this done, and is there a schedule for them? Thanks!

    LAB = Legendary Army Book.

    Technically this refers to the full art/background/rules army books, but the rules specifically are worked on (currently) with four to five concurrently in development. Currently WDG and DL have been finalized, while ID, DE, VS, KoE and SA are in various points (ID is close to finished, the others are in varying states of development).

    They are released (under current policy) in an alpha state, iterated, adjusted later to beta, iterated and then finalized. Updates to any given book in development may be published on any given Thursday, with no advance notice.

    Technically only two books have gone gold in the two past two years, but only two books have gone gold period, and the first of those went gold ~22 months ago, with the third slated for this year. (So 3 per 2 years)

    Additionally, the procedures in general are evolving. The gap between WDG going gold and DL going gold was 14 months; the gap between DL and ID should be closer to 8, and we're working to try and narrow the gap between ID and DE (etcetera) further. The simplest such tool was the creation of more teams that are active at any one time; we have more manpower in play (for most of WDG development, there was only one or two teams actually working; currently there are five).

    Background Team

    Just for the sake of completeness. WDG and DL as they are fully finished (known as Gold) , have their full background and artwork in the book (there is also a LAB Gold Slim version just rules) and ID although not yet Gold also has background and artwork quality that has nothing to envy to the GW books. Go to the download section and enjoy them.

    In addition, each LAB will bring some supplementary armies once the LAB is finished. This means that they are trying to develop a facet of the LAB that for space reasons could not be developed. In the case of WDG you have Asklanders and Makhan, which represent the barbarian facet in their Viking and nomadic archer-riders form, respectively. DL has a supplementary army of human cultists hiding in society and are developing another supplement for single-cult armies. ID has a supplementary army of Hobgoblin Vassals. You can also find it in the download section. Try them out if you like them and bring feedback to the forum. We'll be happy to hear what you think.
