With the runaway successes of the Human and Nonhuman Painting Leagues last year, Tonko and I have been secretly plotting how to make the Leagues even more successful in the coming year. Here's a breakdown of what things will look like:
The Rules
1. Choose a side. Or two sides. Instead of Humans vs. Nonhumans, the 2023 season will feature a theme of Dan vs. YoungSeward, and the various armies and supplements of T9A fall into the following categories:
Dan’s Purple Cobras
Dwarven Holds
Empire of Sonnstahl
Highborn Elves
Kingdom of Equitaine
Saurian Ancients
Sylvan Elves
Asklanders
Mahkar
Iron Crowns
Nippon
Infernal Dwarves
YoungSeward’s Fighting Mongooses
Dread Elves
Beast Herds
Daemon Legions
Cultists
Monosin
Hobgoblins
Ogre Khans
Orcs and Goblins
Undying Dynasties
Vampire Covenant
Vermin Swarm
Warriors of the Dark Gods
Note that this means we are limiting this year's entries to T9A-specific content. As new books and supplements are released over the year (hint hint) this list will be updated accordingly.
2. Paint 10 points worth of Team Dan or Team YoungSeward models per month according to the following rubric:
Example 1: Dan paints 70 points of TD faction models and 90 points of TYS faction models over the course of 2023. Even though he painted 160 total points, he did not paint contribute 120 points to any one side and would not qualify for the year end poll.
Example 2: Tonko paints 130 points of TD faction models and 150 points of TYS faction models over the course of 2023. Because he contributed over 120 points to both TD and TYS, he would qualify for both year end polls.
3. Post pictures of your painted models here. Because we are using a single thread for both sides this year and we encourage/anticipate a lot of dialogue and WIP pictures, please tag Tonko and myself when you are making a post to update your point total and note the side you're contributing the points to.
4. Vote. At the end of the year each participant who achieved 120 TD or TYS points will post an army shot of their year’s progress. A poll of qualifying armies will be held to determine the community’s favorite, and the winners will be crowned Dan’s Champion (2023) and YoungSeward’s Champion (2023).

A couple more housekeeping notes:
- Everyone who contributed points in 2022 to either painting league is automatically signed up. Congratulations!
- We'll no longer differentiate between conscripts and participants. That doesn't mean we won't still conscript people, of course!
- You'll note three scores next to your name in Tonko's list below: Team Dan YTD points, Team YoungSeward YTD points, and all time points. The all time points figure includes all points painted in both 2022 leagues as well as your TD and TYS points for the year. This score will continue rolling over into each successive league in the coming years, so remember that every point counts!
