  • @Calisson FWIW I agree with basically all of that post. I was a GW fanboy for decades, and whilst I bear them no ill-will, it is clear that they are no longer interested in making the kind of games that I want to play; I am no longer a part of their intended audience Its part of why we are in a catch-22 as a project: it seems that the number of people interested in this sort of game is dwindling, but at the same time if we change it too much to attract newcomers then we lose the reason for its e…

  • Quote from setrius: “I think T9A should be separate from etc. Etc tournament have to much influence in T9A and I think this is a mistake. It's time to change the tournament mentality of this project because looks like a sectarian game that only play a few chosen. That is all ” *Sigh* T9a is separate from ETC. Few if any design decisions are made for reasons pertaining to ETC. ETC is the reason that so many staff know each other, and the project was originally envisaged partly as a way to keep th…

  • Can I ask something about the scope of this please? The original impression I had was that the goal was to add extra rules to existing units, extra army wide special rules/spells to armies and generally attempt to increase the variance and storytelling/evocativeness of what is currently available. The focus seems to have shifted though to adding new units. Have I understood this correctly?

  • Quote from Klexe: “Is there already any internal feedback about "numbers of armies taken" and their tiers ? ” I know this doesn't quite answer your question; but there is stuff on most of the public army forums. If you wanted to collate it and try to convince people to add bits here and there to get every army analysis to the same level (and include path/common item analysis), I'm sure that would help out the guys internally.

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “How interesting is it really? -Makes many wizards hard to keep alive, and require dedicated bunkers that need to stay out of combat. -Compels particular gear and magic item decisions, lest your character just die to a bunch of terrible line troops. -Makes hero-level fighting characters virtually unplayable. (Which is why most only see play as BSBs). -Has no positive impact on strategic-level decisions. -Mostly creates tactical busy-work. What's actually 'interesting' he…

  • For a great example of characters being "unit boosters" see GW's war of the ring. So much good stuff in that game, particularly considering there was only 1 edition and it was never revisited.

  • Quote from micdicdoc: “Just revisiting this thread and reconsidering some of it's ideas after a little while. @DanT, do you have a copy of the list you could share here? Or even a link to where it might be posted elsewhere, please? ” It was back in 203, so probably doesn't quite work anymore. I haven't used EoS since 203 cos I'm on a mission to use as many different armies as possible this year. Dan goes to the English champs That post contains the final list that I used to podium at English cha…

  • It is being discussed at a high level, we are not just ignoring it. Which doesn't mean to say we agree with the claimed problems and/or solutions of course...

  • Unwieldy longbows is a really interesting idea

  • Great name for the project @Warboss_R'ok @Gabado Also look at Paul Godbold and Tony Hayle's stuff in the scroll. I dno if that is the same stuff as what @Ghiznuk is talking about. I dno what Paul's name is on the forum I'm afraid. I would love a multiplayer expansion for t9a, and have mentioned this to Paul before. But I think this is best done separately to what is being proposed in this thread (although I see no reason that the two wouldn't be compatible).

  • Has anyone done an analysis of BRB item usage across all of the ETC lists? I would love to have a look at that if anyone has done it, I think it would be an interesting data point to look at.

  • Quote from Eldan: “I see you liked that one, so I feel I have to elaborate here. You are conflating Fun and Randomness in your post. Which is a false equivalency. THe ninth age has, for a while now, started to tear out fun rules under the mantle of balance. Which would be fine, if anythign was offered up in exchange. It would be entirely possible to write up an Animosity rule that does not rely on random dice rolls. A backfiring cannon that does not rely on random dice rolls. We can have items t…

  • ETC Predictions

    DanT - - ETC

    Post

Quote from Squirrelloid: “Predictions? People will make a bigger deal of ETC than it warrants, and draw all sorts of fallacious conclusions from it. ” Have you read the latest news? Edit: you should come and play the singles tournament, to see what its all about

  • So, increase points of heros heart, decrease points of everything else or both?

  • So, what is the solution? Is it a problem with heros heart itself? If so is it a design or points problem? Or is the problem that other weapons aren't good enough in comparison? Again, can they be fixed by points or are design changes needed?

  • Guys, come on. There is no need for this moaning in this thread. I've said that if you guys make a homebrew "crazy" t9a that is good then I will personally represent it to the highest levels in the project and ask for it to be "official" auxiliary material. So go spend your energy doing that. I look forward to reading it (Oh and Padforce, you aren't paying enough attention to the UK tournament scene as a whole. It is smaller than that of 8th ed. was of course, but TEC in April was I believe the …

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “ But I thought that people didn't like the tyranny of the "army deletion" spells in 8e? Do you think there is a space in between what we currently have and something like Purple Sun? ” *shrugs* Don't look at me, I'm not the one who wants such an expansion. I'm just trying to give you ideas based on the requests I've seen on the forum over the past year or so.

  • One suggestion I will make is to make your own versions of crazy rules/mechanics, not copy from other systems. The latter runs the risk of not being accepted as "official" by the project for IP reasons, but that is not my field of expertise so I cannot suggest any specifics. One option might be for certain war machines, or war machine types, to have ridiculous misfire results. Another option would be to create a "number 7" spell for each path that is wizard master only and significantly more pow…

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “Well, it's clear that some people have left T9A because certain "fun" aspects of 8th edition got axed, such as O&G animosity, or perhaps other weird and wonderful stuff. So is there a way that you could just take all of those types of rules and put them into an expansion, and if you want to play with it you add it into your books by selecting a certain option on the download page? ” Make it yourself in homebrew. Call it "t9a on steroids". If its good enough I'll ask…

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “Would it be possible to make a game that scales on the fun vs serious aspect? ” Can you elaborate a little on this please?
