  • Quote from Throgg: “Now I also get to wonder if we can create a horrific monster of a unit with this - BSB with fight in extra rank banner tagged onto the side of a block of trolls. Troll ranks get three extra attacks. The BSB clipping the side of the enemy unit (or even better no contact at all) takes minimal attacks back and the big, fat unit of trolls gets three ranks fighting? ” Tell me more. What kind of trolls, what kind of BSB.

  • Thanks. That's exactly the sort of input to design questions we need.

  • Well, there is only one way to find out. Quote from lawgnome: “If you roll a 12 on your charge dice, you get thunderous charge. If you roll a 2 on your charge dice, you are stunned instead of taking a fail charge (so if you get counter charged, you are -1 to hit. I think that is how the new rule works) If you roll a 2 on your leadership test, you auto pass. If you roll a 12 on your leadership test, you auto fail, no BSB rerolls allowed. ” @slivek Is this something the BLT would consider, if appr…

  • Remember, @lawgnome, those are 2.77% chances. If we got them for free I would be cool with it. Flavorful, yet not too impactful on the game, and potentially creating good stories. But I worry that the BLT would overcost them due to their focus on the potential best result. That's kind of what they do.

  • Quote from Ghremdal: “Quote from beerbeard: “Hmmm, we already have dice rolls that end the game. The miscast can still completely hose you. However, it can only completely hose you if you really go balls to the wall on your cast. So it's risk-reward. Don't take the risk, don't get the reward. And vice versa. Go yeh gits, go! Units with the majority of model parts with this rule can choose to take a third dice on their charge roll. If any two of the three dice form a double, then charge is automa…

  • Quote from Throgg: “Quote from Dahnasj: “this is awesome, i would like to put some sort of wolverine claws on my mage so I love this. ” Whooo! Someone happy! *bookmarked. ” *flagged. Forum rule #1: there shall be no happy

  • We combined our sneak peeks because some armies wanted to do 10 weeks of spoilers and I just don't have that much jam. I think I mentioned somewhere today that Orc Shaman can take paired weapons now. The common version also has Light Armor. So you can really make them into a combat beast, which I like. Scarification means something now, and consider the Pinchin Pan and the Troll Ale flask... Just scanned through the book, can't find anything else that I don't think you already know.

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “And dude I have 50 orc archers so it's not like I haven't run that build! ” Only 50? Noob.

  • So the statistics verify what experienced players already know: O&G is the worst army. RIght? That is what it says, right?

  • I don't want to lose models outside of combat. Remember, fun? Taking away models is not fun. It also has to feel real--why would guys die? Charging off in the wrong direction, to me that's fun, as long as it doesn't happen all the time. Now, if it was just my rule, I would take away the choice - any unit with the rule does this on charges. But I know most people can't handle living on the edge as much as I can. However, the math sucks, you would fail the charge 96/216 times or about 44% of the t…

  • Yeah, well, I'm playing HbE. So that bump to my OS is going to rock!

  • Quote from lawgnome: “I really like the idea of making the randomness a part of regular dice rolls: charge rolls, leadership tests, etc. This would be a great place to reimplement insane courage, and having a bonus when rolling really well on a charge roll would be neat too. You could probably make one for if you really fail a charge, too. Have the unit be disoriented if they roll a 2 on their charge due to infighting, maybe. ” I like that too. Do Ogres still have Ogre Charge? Or was that decide…

  • Quote from Throgg: “Exactly! What we need to do is to stop the Iron Orc from being "the best" ” Be very careful here. There is more than one way to stop something from being the best: 1) Make everything else better. 2) Make the better thing worse. I have to stop here. Use your imagination...

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “I think it should eventually be supported to have an iron orc-themed army. Make the core orcs with heavy armour and crossbows into iron orcs as a start. Obviously you could take the goblin war machines and grotlings. Maybe give it a bonus of some kind army-wide. Very limited in choices but an interesting novelty army. ” Maybe based on some sort of cult or tribe rule perhaps? Unlocked by taking an Iron Orc general, perhaps? I'm no stunty, the name and pic go way, way, wa…

  • Quote from Throgg: “Well for what it's worth I think the Uruk Hai seemed to have higher discipline than the races of men. ” Uruk-Hai are half-orcs. Like, D&D half orcs. We don't have those. Quote from HansDampf: “"Whakka-Whakka" (normal and feral orcs) If your charge-roll is equal or higher 10 the following happens: The unit gains +1 attack and all (!) models in the unit may perform supporting attacks, but on a to-hit roll of 1 and 2 you're hitting your own unit, instead of failing to hit. This …

  • You have to remember, this isn't a democracy. No one knows that better than I. That said... There are 16 armies. Each needs to be identified with certain characteristics and attributes that differentiate it from the other 15. That isn't easy, and what makes it even harder is there is a long, long legacy of expectations about what fantasy tropes apply and how they fit with game design. Basically, what I'm saying is that if you don't like "unruly" for greenskins then take it up with Tolkien. Same …

  • And E Quote from Casp: “I think to conciliate everybody: Funny random rules need to be optionnal. The player should decide if he want to use the special rules or not. Like this everybody will be happy. ” - And then Elves can decide if they want to have high leadership or not. - Ogres get to pick their base size. - VC can be perfectly alive and chubby, if they so desire. Shall I go on? Yes, because (nothing personal Casp) this "optional" idea needs to die. - Dwarves can be taller, and have lower …

  • I'm participating in an "official" playtest game on Saturday. Depending on how it goes, you may see a write-up of the game here on the site. I'll have the GGI in all it's glory, so we'll see what happens. (I'll grow my beard out this week so you can recognize me from my avatar pic.)

  • It's possible I think to write a special rule that says "use the unit's inherent leadership only." You also make the BSB effect not be usable too.
