  • Yeah I think Latex and screenshot is the best solution. I doubt there is enough maths posted on the forum to argue that a bbcode Latex balise would be necessary, but there is a code balise after all hahaha !

  • Quote from Shlagrabak: “Since this thread seems to be like a magnet to math nerds and enthusiast to argue statistics, I worked out the probability formula for the general case of N attacks. p is the base chance to hit (like 1/6 for 6+) nCk is for n choose k The base probabilities as people pointed out before: P(0)= (1-p)^2, probability of 1 attack yielding 0 hits P(1)= (2-p)(1-p/6), probability of getting exactly 1 hit P(2)= (2-p)/6, probability of getting 2 hits Distinguish the case of even tot…

  • Quote from Shane: “Quote from Serwyn: “What is more interesting though is that X attack on 4+ with BF and Hatred is strictly equivalent to 2X attacks on 4+. It is strictly the same distribution, not only the same average. So from a statistical and balance point of view, it is completely equivalent. Hence, don't say that the combo let them autohit, say that the combo effectively double the number of attacks made (at 4+). ” And this applies to second rank models as well, so it is not only the equi…

I ran some calculations to determine the probability distribution assuming a larger number of attacks (5 base attacks in this case): * To-Hit (BF + Hatred) * 3+ * 4+ * 5+ * 6+ * Probability of < 5 hits * 19.4% * 37.7% * 57.9% * 83.0% * Probability of 5 hits * 28.2% * 22.7% * 19.0% * 0% * Probability of > 5 hits * 51.5% * 37.7% *…

Now since you yourself say you're not so good at maths, maybe you could believe a mathematician instead of missreading what he says ? Average is not the only thing about a probability distribution. 2+ reroll is closer to autohit than 4+ reroll BF is. make the graph of a hit that follows one of these rules you will see.<br style="background-color: rgb(241, 245, 250);">Since you don't say about th…

I find it fun that at some point Forest guards were taken mostly with paired weapons, and now it is he inverse, while they didn't benefits hard from the +1 agi, and the armour of spear guard has been reduced to 5+. Does someone know or has an idea of what caused this flip ?

  • Stop that guys, autohit and things that have expected value 100% isn't the same at all. At all. Considering the pricing, it wouldn't be fair to "price above average if variance is great". That's just that average is only partially vector of price. What count is utility ! And it may very well be that doubling the damages more than double the utility, or less than double it. For exemple, consider a canon that would deal D6-1 wounds (so 0-5) and a canon that always deals three wounds. Both have ave…

  • Quote from Smythen: “Well mainly battle focus is a replacement for frenzy that gave +1 attack to the front rank only thus being better for small units. Battle focus is equally good for models with many attack (characters and monstrous infantry) and big ranked units. Whats not to like???? ” Well it's way better on bad, low skilled models and not of much use on high OS models. I agree that the oppurtunity to fix the to hit chart was missed.

  • Quote from Shane: “Quote from Serwyn: “Auto hit would certainly not be the same. Battle focus and hatred aren't in all cases equivalent to automatic hit. It would be much more complicated since it would add a special case "if a unit has both these rules, it touches automatically". Not intuitive at all. Also from an immersion point of view it is a lot worse. How to justify that elite unites like chaos or elven lords don't succeed in all their hits but a simple infected rat does ” It would be just…

  • No, battle focus grants a second hit but that hit isn't poisoned. Personally I quite like the actual horn. It certainly needs a few tweaks, but that failsafe mechanism letting try charges from a bit further isn't bad. Yes, I would like an item for our mages too, if possible antimagic, but this isn't realistic. Maybe reroll once per phase would have a chance to be accepted but it's not a particularly exciting item.

  • Quote from Rafiki: “Sting Ring: replacing mist walker mirror bound spell Swarm of bees range 48in, hex missile damage Immediately after successfully casting this spell, the target suffers 5D6 hits with Strength 1, Armour Penetration 0, and Magical Attacks (specifically no attribute) Wand of Wych-elm: replacing predators pennant This wand allows any Dispel attempt to be rerolled Horn of the Wild Hunt replacing Horn of the wild hunt one use only All units within 6in gains swiftstride and devastati…

  • Let's cut the discussion with a bit of math and rigor. First, let's check how battle focus together increases the damages of a unit. If i'm already hitting on 2+, getting hatred and battle focus will increase the number of hits by two fifth (40% more damages, 1.4 multiplier). If i'm hitting on 6+, getting battle focus + hatred increases my damage by 266%(3.66 multiplier) (compared to only 40%). So both hatred and battle focus efficiencies heavily depends on base to-hit score, as we all know. But…

  • I'm not really sure... Fighters know that cavalery is dangerous on charge, so they should fear less, knowing that if they survived the charge they're really likely to survive the round after. It would be much more frightening to get the same amount of damages from a unit that won't fall off. So I think Heavy cavalery should have a bit more damages and a bit less tankyness, and at some points having made enough wounds should break steadfast. Maybe stedfast could only prevent the combat result mal…

  • That's right, but less magical items means less choice too. (and you probably won't give hunter's honour to a duelist.). Morover, taking both separately means you can't take any other artefact, so less options. Anyway I would by quite a lot prefer our character being able to take distracting as a mundane/non-magic item option. It's supposed to be our strength after all.

  • Would having a +3 ds item and a distracting item be approved ? They gain quite a bit of strength when used together. I don't think it's bad, it would finally give us a way to have a bit of resistence, but we need to think that they would most often be used together. That given, wouldn't it be better to just make a single item with both ? Else we lose an item slot, and they would be suboptimal when picked separately anyway.

  • it would work better if we had some way to force dueling
