  • I routinely run 6 Yetis with a champion and a Hunter. In Wildheart lists I like Spinesplitter with Heartripper+yeti furs+Potion of swiftness with a frost mammoth supporting the unit. In wildheart you can make the hunter a BSB so you can get scrapling lookout to protect your hunter that 1ish turn before you get into close combat. 32 attacks on the charges at agility 8-9 (With Frost mammoth support) is very good. They're only weakness is getting shot, but overall they're consistently a workhorse u…

  • Monster is a weakness for EoS and yet we're one of the army's with a dragon?

Yeah, but we already have wrestler's belt+Ritual bloodletter for a better shaman setup than Hero's heart. I supposed Hero's heart mesh's better with karkadan's resilience, but still... Thanks by the way. Still trying to get my bearings on everything

I don't even know what they mean about hero's heart competing with heart ripper. I find the two weapons to be fairly different and I don't think hero's heart was even taken by Ogre characters that much before the last update and heartripper isn't taken much now. Hero's heart's biggest attraction to Ogre's is +1atk on top of paired weapons. Heartripper's biggest plus is that it makes it easier to hit stuff. Both have some anti-armor factors, but for 50+ points they're both mediocre options for Og…

  • I admit it feels lame when a ton of people build basically the exact same BSB, nevertheless it's nice to have that efficient combo. And if prices changed I could see people still just doing Alchemist's alloy+Willow's Ward+Death Warrant. Changing prices wouldn't stop the build, just nerf the BSB Marshal itself. I think it could be cool if Blacksteel was made something like 60pts, but had a static +2 to armor so that Marshal's on Big Bird had something better than ghostly guard, but I'm probably a…

  • Quote from Jomppexx: “Yea I feel nothing is that overpowered. I'd say the only thing that needs a bit of toning down is the hunters but that's it imo. Aurochs is another one that I feel is really good but only because the other monsters don't fill the Aurochs role as effectively. So I don't think Aurochs needs a nerf but it's popular because the other options aren't good enough. ” Hunters are solid because in Wildheart lists they're basically cheaper Great Khans with that 9 Discipline and that's…

  • I think hunter+belt is the intended combo though. I’ve used belt with shaman to good effect, but I think it was made for hunter. A piece of me wishes it was only +1 armor but could enchant more than light armor so that khans could get decent mileage out of it and it wouldn’t be as powerful on hunter. Ideally, I think the only solution that is needed is that hunter just needs a slight base price increase.

  • Quote from Jomppexx: “The only concern I have about support guard is that it might look weird when their parent unit runs away but they stick in the fight due to bodyguard. Sounds a bit odd but if you've stuck some character in there I guess it would make sense. ” I think the discussion is that IG would only gain bodyguard when they are a parent unit. Quote from berti: “I have a realy big and nice painted EoS army. Beside 7 other armys. So I don t wish some armys to be crap or some OP. I just th…

  • Quote from berti: “Quote: “Thunder Cannons need swiftstride back. I think it's also overpriced a little, but at least let the thing be a chariot cannon again... ” If we take regular artillery as priced in the correct way, then how can the canon be underpriced? If anything the gap between those chariot artillerys (in all their forms in different armies) and reegular artillery is way to small, taken into account that all those big disadvantages of regular artillery is not present on the chariot ver…

  • That is partially what we're discussing right now. Firstly, whether it would make sense for Imperial Guard to have support unit and secondly, whether it would be too powerful for them to have it.

  • Firstly... DON'T MESS WITH MY MAMMOTH! It's perfect, not too good, not too bad. It already has tough competition with Rock Auroch and even giants to an extent, don't make its work life harder! I know it sounds biased, but I really don't think there's much that's overpowered in Ogre Khans right now. People complain about Firebrand+Essence, but we already know that's being resolved and without that combo Firebrand goes from good to merely decent, if not straight up overpriced. I think scratapults …

  • I respect that there are mixed opinions on Imperial Guard gaining a support unit option. Until more people chime in it sounds like it's a little half and half opinion wise. Personally, from a fluff perspective, if I were an Imperial ruler and had some epic elite guard then I would send them in large groups for important key battles, but in more minor scuffles I would only send small detachments of them to support or aid the troops already involved. Specialists rarely work in large numbers. As su…

  • Quote from Jomppexx: “But I feel not ALL units should benefit from orders. You could make orders applicable to every unit in the army but then I feel units like Flagellants and rangers should have some special rule that represents that they don't necessarily have the training to undergo given orders. ” I think this is a really good point that there are unit entries that don't make sense in receiving orders. Again, I doubt any of this is relevant until the rework, but it would be nice to arrive a…

  • The entire argument to make the T9A more historic is ridiculous in my mind. We have wizards and dragons flying around for crying out loud! This game does not, and to a large extent should not, prioritize historical accuracy. If it were to try then the entire game would need to change vastly. There are other games that satisfy the historical wargame theme better than T9A and if people really need that in their life they should look to those games more. I'm not saying that we should throw reasonab…

  • Quote from Smythen: “Maybe we are having it all backwards with the parent support thing. (as with the changes to militia) What if ORDERS could be given to all units? After all its about the commanders skill not the unit. Then our knights and mounted characters would actually be able to achieve something worth their cost. (we would still need better orders IMHO, like replacing FIER with +1A.) Then the parent support rules could stay on the infantry, so things don't get too messy. ” I approve of t…

  • Quote from Konrad von Richtmark: “I would be wary about giving Parent Unit or Support Unit to any units that don't currently have those rules. To me, those rules are the soul and the identity of our regular infantry. Well-organized humans drilled to execute rapid, coordinated maneuvers in mutual support. Humans using organization, cooperation and military science to win against enemies they'd have little chance against one-on-one. I suppose it would be possible to have cavalry be part of such a …

  • I'll just pop in to say that Scraplings with bows are worthwhile and that Thaumaturgy is indeed amazing for Ogres. Also, I wouldn't let frost mammoths force you into not playing great weapons. I think it's great to have mammoths support some units like Mercs, Yetis, tribesmen, tuskers, tigers, etc. But don't feel like you can't also have bruisers, GW giants and GW characters in the army. Mammoths aside though, you can't go wrong with double Auroch. As for bombardiers, I sometimes like to put a p…

I like 3ish scoring units. I think the only reasonable way to get to 4+ scoring units is with core darts, which I have fallen out of favor with recently, but they do score. Generally you have a large core block of Tribesmen or Bruisers, 1-2 darts, and tuskers or mercs.

I actually like Leader of the pack and I hope it doesn't grant light troops in the future. When you run a large tiger block being able to swift reform is super helpful to turn the block around. And the rank bonus for big tiger blocks is quite important, if they got light troops that advantage would completely go away. And if Tigers gained scoring I would basically never take Tribesmen. I rather deal with the downside of my hunter getting a 50mm base and having the bigger footprint than spending …

Werepire - - Empire of Sonnstahl (EoS)

    Post

I think the Empire has a number of underused and overused units. I'll try to explore them and solutions. Obviously most of these solutions can't be implemented now, but I think it's important to still communicate ideas. I do hope that several points changes can be accomplished in the next update though: Inquisitor (Underused): I don't think issue is cost or even functionality. I think it's just character saturation in EoS. There's just no place for a non-magic and non-leader character that can't…
