I've used to have a plog over at Warseer. Alas, it seems the site finally fell...

Since someone asked me about my Bretonnians, I decided to replicate what is possible - the pictures. Battle reports are, I am afraid, gone...

Anyway, I begin with the Bretonnians, aka Equitaine. If there's interest, I'll post some of my Dark (Dread) Elves and High(born) Elves I do for my Wife!

Unlike my old P.Log, I decided that I will try to make some WIP photos to make the log more regularily updated - ideally I'd like to have something to show every Sunday.

This time I'd like to present my Questors, who have two guests from Spain among their ranks

As You can see, I file away those absurd embedded shields and also make some other minor upgrades. The first photo shows, for example, that I removed the blocky reins' inside - it still something to be done on the horse with chanmail head. The last thing that I do is to remove bits of "grass" helping the horses with their dynamic poses and replace them with pins, painted black - as per Knights Errant in the first post.

If anyone wondered what happened to the horses of the Gamezone questors, here's one of them:

The lute is a spare from the Tristan model. Now, that was simple...

with his right hand remodelled - just sume bending and cutting, nothing really fancy, I am not a great modeller and certainly were not greater twelve years ago (or whenever I did the unit).

Well, I think I missed two updates, so high time to post something new I guess!

Here are some Dark Elf Xbows - although finished in January, they were NOT posted before, so this IS their début on-line

The models are classic 6th edition Xbows, but "modernised" with bits from the 8th edition set - namely crossbows and the banner.

I think the effect is not bad at all!

So, this time I missed one update only, so I guess it is some progress


I'd like to present You a renovated Knight of the Realm, using 3rd ed rider on 5th ed mount (and legs). The model wasn't completely stripped, and I actually left some old colours, for example - on armour. Also, the tail and barding interior needs some finishing touches (read: highlights).


The final thing I consider is whether to use some blue blazon on the yellow stripe - a key or a crown, as these are horizontal - or leave the knight as he is.

As a part of adaptation of the army for an upcoming Master Tournament, I have to finally base my Trebuchets. And, since their Crew are actually wound counters now, I decided to magnetise the whole thing - especially that my carrying case is prepared for Trebuchets without bases!

I've tried to deploy with a chance for some flank charges, as that's what we are supposedly to do to have a chance with massed infantry. If I did well that is another matter
My army had a Challenger Grail Duke with 1+RR/5+ save, BSB with Crusader's Helm, a pair of L1 Damsels, three five strong Aspirant units, 11-strong KotR Lance, 8-strong QK Lance, two 8-strong Grail Knight Lances and a five-Pegasus squad.

My deployment went as follows:
Knights Aspirant - (forest) - Knights Aspirant - Grail Knights [damsel] - (hill) - Questing Knights [Lord] - KotR [BSB] - Knights Aspirant - Pegasi (behind another forest) - Grail Knights [damsel].

Well, unlike the photo order, Vermin actually deployed all first to make use of a huge deployment bonus. From left to right: poison wind grenadiers, slaves, warplightning cannon, Stormvermin with a DoomBell, bell-wizard, doombladelord, bsb and possibly an engineer, RatAtArms (or sth) with a MiniDoomWheel ("doom" is quite overused word in this army I think ;)), slaves, ABomb. Foreground: 2x2 rat bases.

Abomination went to the flank as a rraction to me deployment and a forward Vanguard move by Pegasus Knights. Globadiers, accompanied by one of the engineers, advanced, as did the Stormstar,slightly hiding the warp-lightning cannon from a potential Knight Errant charge.

Well, I seem to have some kind of a block, as I lack insipration to paint anything... I guess it's the indecision on what to include in the army that freezes me .

In the meantime, however, I got some second-hand goodies; some even are still on sprues!

I think I overdid the compression of that Skaven battle as I can't remember what happened when on the pictures

Instead I think I'll try to report on battles from the last week's tournament.

My army included:
A Challenger Duke: Grail Oath, Valour, Potion of Swiftness, Dusk Stone, Hardened Shield, Mace of Tristan, BWh - 275 pts
A Questing BSB: Piety, Crusader's Helm, gt weapon.
Two L2 Damsels (one with Dispel Scroll, another with Book of Arcane Power)

Three 5-strong KA units (all with musicians and in light armour, two with champions)
One 11-strong KotR lance

One 8-strong QK lance
Three Pegasi (vanguard, devastating charge, musician and champion)
five mtd squires

Two 8-strong Grail Knight lances.

BATTLE ONE (or 14th in 2016)

The first battle was against a Vermin Swarm (again! there were like 6 or 7 VS armies in a 22-men tourney!).

The army included:

A pestilence war platform (I am not sure as for the current name unfortunately), possibly with a hero mounted on it,
A BSB and possibly a warlord, too
An engineer-mage or two
An assasin loaded up to almost 200 points

Large exStormvermin unit
Large clanrat unit with a mini-doomwheel weapon team
Medium clanrat unit with spears (ouch!)
a single two-base swarm

Two six-strong exGutter Runners squads in Ambush mode
Two catapults
An abomination

VS deployed all at once to get the first turn (go figure). I wanted flank charges possible, so deployed my army in two roughly equal parts, with the General on the left (in the unpainted Questors) and BSB on the right in the 12-strong KotR unit.

The scenario was the "two marker" one, these are the yellow dice not far from the pond.

After vanguard the situation looked as below:

Turn One:

Turn saw mostly manoeuvres, with Skaven rotating slightly to anticipate the attack, and me moving the right flank far, and the left - little, just to position the troops. The highlight of the turn were certainly Plagueclaw catapults, which both managed to roll a HIT ... and a MISFIRE! One was damaged for the rest of the game to boot.

Magic was not that important - Rats got a regeneration on stormvermin (whom I didn't want to charge that turn anyway) and I got 7 wounds on the swarm.

Turn Two

As seen above, my opponent moved his Abomb to intercept (or at least block) my left flank, having the right still a bit off. I've also made a mistake with position of the Mtd Squire redirectors, as they were charged in flank by the main block. In the magic phase two Grail Knights fail to a Irresistible Plague, and magical feedback also took 9 clanrats.

Combat saw mounted squires defeated and overruning (or pursuing, don't remeber really) rats run into Pegasus Knights who were positioning themselves for some machine-hunting. On the other hand, this did leave their flank exposed...

Equitaine

As the main block exposed itself for a side charge by Grail Knights, I decided to take the risk and made a combi-charge with the General's Questing Knights and one of the Grail Knight lances. To protect the back of the latter, I've decided to charge the abomination with supporting Errants, even though my past experience with exactly this combination was not promising.

Magic showed little and in combat I barely won, thanks mostly to Pegasi dying - so much for a combicharge from two directions guaranteeing anything

Errants fared somewhat better, losing only two of their number and actually inflicting some damage on the Abomination, meaningit would not be available for the VS player in the next turn.

Turn Three


The Vermin Swarm

The rats mostly moved around to prepare for incoming Equitaine charges; fortunately, Big Clanrat unit was not in position to side-charge the Grail Knights. Swarm moved forward to try and block one of the lances.

Magic seem not to have been important as I have no notes on that

In close combat, all the Questing Knights died and the general slain a champion or someone else unimportant; unfortunately, Grail Knights failed to balance the kills and have fled in shame, leaving the general alone, looking for another (un)worthy challenger for the next combat phase.

In the center of the field the Abomination finished brave young knights ant turned around to wait for an inevitable charge; this made it miss most of the Grail Knights fleeing past it.

Equitaine:

The Knights of the Realm charged the Abomination, although were not well-positioned and only a single row of them could fight the monster. Fleeing Grail Knights fortunately rallied. The furthermost Knight Errant unit galloped toward catapult encampment, while the closer one turned to potentially intercept Gutter Runners should they fail to pass they March Ld test.

My magic saw the +1 S spell successfull, which greatly raised the spirits if Knights of the Realm. What's perhaps more important, they received the Attribute spell (which could be known as the Shield of Saphery in The World that was Slain) to help them against the beast.

Turn Four


The Vermin Swarm

Skaven mainline turned to the approaching far wing of the Equitaine. Knights of the Realm finally got rid of the Abomination, with BSB finally striking a blow (and a 2-wound one to boot!).

I had some trouble deciding on the charges, but in the end I put two larger units into Clanrats, with the already-weakend Grail Knight unit taking the honour of holding the Stormverminstar so that it wouldn't come into their flanks.

Also, the General managed to rally in the end.
